Our story

It started with
a question.

What does it really take to do something extraordinary—and what don’t we see along the way?

Behind the idea

Raw Cuts started with Andrew Platt’s own experiences of depression, burnout and self-doubt. The feeling of not being good enough. The overwhelm. The days when motivation is hard to find.

Having strong, empathetic people around him has made a difference. So has being able to talk honestly about what’s going on.

Living in Squamish, surrounded by athletes, entrepreneurs and adventurers, Andrew found himself wondering about the parts of their lives that rarely make the headlines. How do they keep going? What have they sacrificed? And how do they handle the mental challenges along the way?

One conversation
became another

Andrew brought the idea to Will Morris, his co-founder at InFlow Adventure Company. Will mentioned their friend Mark Sky, who had been talking about these same things, and suggested they connect.

That conversation became Raw Cuts: a place to hear the stories behind the achievements, from the people who lived them.

Not just what they did. What it took.

The first gathering

People left with full hearts.

Our first event brought 100 people together to hear from Bronwyn Hodgins, Michael Horst and Kris Harris. Afterwards, people told us they’d left with full hearts—and wanted to know when the next one was.

That response gave us a reason to keep going.

We’re all human.

We’re starting with entrepreneurs, athletes and adventurers. But everyone’s story is relevant, and we want to hear from people across all walks of life.

We hope these conversations leave you inspired. We also hope they remind you that, however extraordinary someone seems, they’re still human. What you take from a story may depend on where you are in your own.

In time, we want to bring Raw Cuts into podcasts, filmed conversations and focused talks on specific subjects. The thread stays the same: the challenges people face, especially mentally, and how they navigate them.

There’s more to the story.

Hear about the next gathering and new stories as we share them.
